AW25/26
Our question for this collection was: How far can you dismantle familiar clothing structures while maintaining familiarity?
The designs are a playful blend of post-industrial clothing (referring to the period when menswear underwent a transition into the garments that men continue to wear to this day) and old pattern techniques found in traditional clothing from places like Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, etc. These pattern techniques focus on minimizing fabric waste, resulting in straight-cut and T-shaped patterns.
The sleeves lack an angle to provide a slimmer appearance, and the waist is not tightly fitted to the body. However, if we were to solely design garments based on old pattern techniques, they would feel relatively foreign to us, due to their volume and the absence of familiar reference points. Consider the types of collars, pockets, and cuffs we typically find in coats, shirts, jackets, and pants. These mundane details of clothing are the elements we recognize and value. We see the usage of these small details as paying homage and respect to the creative people, makers, and engineers that came up with these ideas and brought them into our lives.
